“This was a very difficult site to develop and needed a strong relationship between us the developer and the design Architect to realize the project. BMAD worked closely with us at every turn and where especially adept at dealing with the Local Planning Authority. The scheme came in on budget and sold within the first month, need we say more.”
Devonshire Road
The existing façade of the building is Grade 1 listed as such it had to be carefully considered and restored to maintain the historical integrity of the structure. Behind the façade was an open plan storage space. This was enlarged by adding a basement and subsequently converted into 6 no. one bedroom live/work units and 1 no. three bedroom duplex apartment to the front of the building. In addition 4 no. new three story townhouses where developed to the rear of the site.
Due the fall on the site and tight restrictions on space the design had to maximize the available land on the site, it was important that the design was compact and considered with an equal emphasis on the old and the new. This was expressed in a gentle progression from old to new from the front to the rear of the site.
